The Padilla Prospectus - Corporate Democrat

"The California Secretary of State is responsible for disclosing each donation to
California candidates. However, the current Cal-ACCESS system does not code contributions by industry source, making it difficult for voters to analyze the financial interests backing any given candidate. Strong fundraising numbers are generally considered to be an asset in political campaigns and are viewed as an indicator of public support for a candidate. However, with more transparency about where donations are coming from, voters may conclude that high fundraising numbers are more indicative of support from wealthy interests than public backing."

Health Care industry

Investment: Health care providers gave $257,950; Pharmaceuticals gave $154,005, Insurance Companies (not all of which offer health insurance) gave $223,033.

Return: In 2012, Senator Padilla was one of six Democratic legislators who killed a single-payer health care bill, SB 810. Padilla, who had previously supported the bill, failed to vote for it the one time it had a real chance of passing.

Payday Loan providers

Investment: $135,952 from payday loan providers and pawn shops

Return: Senator Padilla voted to support AB 1158 in the Senate banking committee, a bill authored by Assemblymember Charles Calderon that would have raised the limit for a payday loan from $300 to $500. The bill was opposed by a long list of consumer advocates.

...playing politics after the Mira Monte scandal. He put teachers who defended due process rights into the limelight calling them protectors of pedophiles. He refused to work with teacher advocates to find a resolution to the problem his bill presented. Eventually the bill died in committee when four democrats abstained from voting on it. One of those four was smeared in a hotly contested election the following year, losing her seat in the legislature.

I do not consider Padilla a friend to teachers. I do not consider Padilla a friend to labor. I consider Padilla a friend to Padilla. He IS a hard worker and very organized. He is someone who knows how to work within to party to build alliances and find success. But I still won't be voting for him in the upcoming election despite Yee's departure.

But how many folks pay attention to Sec. of State? The guy needs to emulate Elizabeth Warren's many house parties and meet and greets across the state.

GOTV!
