Hartford Courant Named New England Newspaper Of The Year

The Hartford Courant (CT) was named Newspaper of the Year Thursday by the New England Newspaper & Press Association, the second straight year the Courant has won the top award among newspapers with circulations over 35,000.

“This is an award that speaks to the breadth and consistency of the excellent work Courant journalists do every day,” said Andrew S. Julien, the Courant’s publisher and editor-in-chief. “To win honors as New England newspaper of the year two years in a row speaks even more clearly to our dedication to that mission.”

Julien received the award during NENPA’s New England Newspaper Conference in Natick, Mass. The Courant topped two newspapers that received distinguished newspaper awards, the Providence Journal and the Republican of Springfield.

The Hartford Courant is the largest daily newspaper in the U.S. state of Connecticut, and is often recognized as the oldest continuously published newspaper in the United States.

The Connecticut Courant began as a weekly on October 29, 1764, thereby claiming the title "America's oldest continuously published newspaper", and adopting as its slogan, "Older than the nation."
