Lest there was any doubt that D.C. would skip out on work to watch James Comey's testimony with a cold beer in hand, Washingtonians put that soundly to rest.
Predictably enough, the line to get into Shaw's Tavernthe first to announce they would open earlystretched down the block, with at least a dozen news outlets filming people eating eggs in front of an outdoor screen blaring CNN, as well as the people waiting on the very long line to watch CNN.
And those people will be waiting a while; long before testimony was scheduled to start, the restaurant was already at capacity. A number of folks peeled off to see if the situation at Duffy's, down the block, was any better. ... It was definitely less of a zoo, but still quickly filled up to standing-room only inside the bar.
....
Meanwhile, down at the Senate, people began lining up in the middle of the night for a chance to watch live from one of the 88 audience seats.
