Someone has carved and painted swastikas on elevators on Georgetown University's campus.
A swastika was found carved onto the inside of an elevator at Village C West, an on-campus residence hall, university officials said in an email sent on Thursday.
Two more swastikas were discovered painted inside the elevator at another student dorm Wednesday night, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
The vandalism mirrors similar bias-related incidents that have happened at Georgetown University in recent years. Anti-semitic graffiti was found in May near a campus Jewish meeting space.

(111,314 posts)would be stopped long enough for someone to do that much damage. I was usually running around with either a late hamburger or Taco Bell trip, or returning from an on-campus party when I was that age (every now and then I might have been studying for a test).

(111,314 posts)I was in a four-person suite that consisted of two bedrooms with a connecting bath. There was a door in each bedroom that lead to a breezeway outside so I was free to roam around. Getting back to the dorm at 4 a.m. from a late night in Austin wasn't a big deal. There was one bar that sold 25 cent well drinks on Wednesday night and I had my schedule arranged so I didn't have any classes on Thursday.

(203,041 posts)It was a six person suite - four singles and a double - with a kitchen and we shared the bath with the suite next door. We had no need for elevators since nothing was higher than three stories - and I chose the third floor as a holdover from my boarding school days - when we had a housemother. My college was on the top of a hill and I didn't drive, so chances were I was coming back from the library. And I'm sure you can guess my issue - it took me until senior year to take Experimental Psych - required for my major - since it was held at 8:30 in the morning!
This is actually where I lived senior year:

(111,314 posts)The most distinctive feature of my room was that it was the room that was the farthest towards the northwest corner of campus. I had a view of the parking lot, the athletic field and the railroad tracks. I didn't have windows that were that large either.

(203,041 posts)Freshman and senior year, I was only the second person to live in my room. That was probably a big reason why I chose it, since my boarding school had been around since 1879 - and I think a few of the teachers had too!
It was actually described as "progressive," and my closest friend was Jewish, another one was Asian, there were black groups and Puerto Rican groups and feminist and gay groups. If someone wanted to carve swastikas or promote any kind of bigotry, they wouldn't have lasted long...
My room in that dorm - and the living room - also looked out on the parking lot and the woods. It was built in what had been an apple orchard. So we used to see people come and go, especially the college president when he was walking out to his car. He'd always smile and wave, a genuinely nice guy, though he never knew we were commenting on his attire - and the fact that his pants were slightly too short.
