Edited to add paragraph about Melania.

Tree that's been at White House since 1800s scheduled to be removed

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 12/26/17 08:40 AM EST

A tree that has been located on the south facade of the White House since the 1800s will reportedly be cut down. ... CNN reported that the Jackson Magnolia this week is scheduled to be taken down and removed.

The tree — which is one of three that are located on the west side of the White House — is too damaged to stay where it is. ... "The overall architecture and structure of the tree is greatly compromised and the tree is completely dependent on the artificial support," documents obtained by CNN regarding the tree reveal.
....

First lady Melania Trump made the final decision to remove the tree after looking at relevant documents including those from specialists at the United States National Arboretum, a White House official told CNN.

The tree was planted when former President Andrew Jackson was in office. His wife died shortly after he was elected. He wanted to plant a sprout from his wife's favorite magnolia tree from their Tennessee farm when he assumed office.

Warning: CNN has annoying autoplay video.

However disappointing the removal of the Jackson Magnolia, the silver lining of its demise is that White House groundskeepers were prepared. For several months, at an undisclosed greenhouse-like location nearby, healthy offshoots of the tree have been growing, tended to with care and now somewhere around eight to 10 feet tall. CNN has learned the plan is that another Jackson Magnolia, born directly from the original, will soon be planted in its place, for history to live on.

According to the article I read about it, that tree’s day was about done and it has to come down.

This doesn’t make me a Trump fan, but on occasions, they can make good landscaping calls.
