President Donald Trumps Salute to America on July 4 will include a ticketed area for VIPs around the Lincoln Memorial, officials announced Friday. There will also be two back-to-back fireworks displays, launching from separate areas near the National Mall. ... The ticketed area will be immediately around the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and about midway down through the Reflecting Pool, said Matt Miller with the U.S. Secret Service.
The Salute to America event, where Trump is scheduled to speak, will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial. The event will include music and military demonstrations, including the U.S. Navys Blue Angels, officials said. ... A spokesperson for the White House said there will be a portion that is ticketed for special guests, friends, and family, and the rest will be open to the general public.
All visitors will have to enter checkpoints to get into the National Mall. Officials say there will be a total of six access pointstwo on Constitution Avenue, three on 15th Street, and one at the Jefferson Memorial. There will be an inner security perimeter inside the the barricades around the National Mall, said U.S. Park Police Chief Robert MacLean.

Who Will Pay For Trumps Celebration?
Its unclear how much President Trumps Salute to America event will cost. The military parade he requested last year (but didnt get), had an estimated price tag of $92 million. Mayor Muriel Bowser said the city will do whatever it takes to keep people safe, and it will ask for reimbursement from the federal government. The Washington Post reported that President Trump still owes D.C. $7.3 million for costs related to his 2017 inauguration.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) are urging Congress for money for D.C.s Emergency Planning and Security Fund, which pays for security costs related to being in the nations capital. That fund, which doesnt include the costs for Trumps Fourth of July event, is slated to run out next month, the lawmakers say. They plan to ask for funding for the fiscal year 2020 to cover costs related to Trumps celebration.

(15,805 posts)National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial? People gather to see the iconic memorials, picnic and watch the fireworks, but with Trump trying to steal the limelight won't that prevent a lot of people from even getting to tour the Lincoln Memorial?
Edited to add:
Are the VIP tickets free to all, and who pockets the admission money? Besides, this is public land available for the enjoyment of all Americans, so how is Trump able to deny access and exclude everyone and give preferential treatment to his ass kissing cronies? Can he pay to rent the Lincoln Memorial for his own private use?
