Florida man who flew massive Confederate flag found dead

TAMPA, Fla. -- A man who bragged of tricking local Florida officials into letting him fly a massive Confederate flag at the corners of two busy interstates has died, authorities said.

Police said officers found 73-year-old Marion Lambert dead on his small farm in Tampa on Wednesday. WFLA first reported the news. Officials said foul play is not suspected.

Family and friends started an online fundraiser for funeral expenses and for the future of the farm, which was a popular stop for fresh honey, eggs and milk in the city.

In 2017, Lambert told The Associated Press during an interview that he tricked the county several years ago, when he bought a sliver of land near Interstates 4 and 75.

Quite possible, I think. He's in that dangerous age group and it sounds as if his politics were somewhat skewed toward Trumpomania. Another bootstrap, rugged individualist who expects others to pick up the tab for his final expenses. It sounds like any farmland and personal effects, including that "sliver of land", should be sold to wipe out any debts he left behind.

5. I moved to Florida from GA almost 2 yrs ago. My first memory was driving by that flag on I75

I am back in GA now. I was never totally comfortable with the relocation. Among all the things I questioned myself about was that flag.
The sense of unease I got when I had to drive by it.
GA has its share of racists, we still have Stone Mountain - in my county - But damn, I don't have to drive by a giant confederate flag on frequent basis anymore.
I don't go to Stone Mountain so I don't have to see that monstrosity.
