Expressway authority offers Precourt month-to-month deal (Updated article)

Personal Commentary:

Funny how things work when the paper takes an active interest in following good ole boy activity. The mention of Precourt looking for a soft landing after his Tally gig got me to thinking. I have had a hell of a problem trying to get authorities to look into an obvious corruption issue in my community, but never could get the State Attorney's Office or the FBI Corruption department to look into it. I finally reached the opinion that someone in high places was either telling them that they had everything under control; or else, corruption in Central Florida is so off the charts that the authorities don't even blink anymore.

At any rate, if you follow the thread I wrote the other day, this is the information I left out: The engineering firm who designed my community's plat in 1980 was the same one that Precourt is co-owner with. I doubt he was personally involved, but it was his company that designed the plat. They might also be responsible for the engineering issues I discuss in my thread. I haven't confirmed their level of involvement, for example, in the design of the road.

Working in Tally would not put him out of reach for the people who live here. I know of at least one person in this community that drives up to Tally as a lobbyist. It's not beyond the realm of speculation, I believe, that someone (or several someones) are successfully providing a different spin on what happened, than the story I have to tell.

Here's my thread. the last entry I made gives a synopsis of my dilemma.

Update of first article:

Expressway authority offers Precourt month-to-month deal

Orlando's toll-road agency voted 3-2 this morning to offer a former state representative a month-to-month contract as its top manager, less than a week after State Attorney Jeff Ashton asked them to postpone the action.

But it was unclear if Steve Precourt would accept the deal. He has until 5 p.m. Friday to decide.

After the meeting, Precourt said he was not thrilled with the proposal, saying it was "splitting the baby ... a show of weakness."

The five-member board of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority already has negotiated a five-year agreement with Precourt, who recently quit his legislative seat of seven years to take the job paying $185,000 annually.

Original article from the Orlando Sentinel:

Orlando's toll-road agency may hire a former state representative as its top manager this morning, less than a week after State Attorney Jeff Ashton asked them to postpone the action.

The five-member board of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority already has negotiated a five-year agreement with Steve Precourt, who recently quit his legislative seat of seven years to take the job paying $185,000 annually.

But Ashton, in a letter delivered Friday to the agency, said his investigation of authority board members is not finished. He is looking into whether three directors violated the state's so-called Sunshine Law by discussing agency business privately rather than in an open meeting

"The public has a right to know what did or did not occur, and Mr. Precourt deserves the opportunity to accept his new employment free from a cloud of suspicion," Ashton wrote.
