Former state representative has until 5 p.m. to accept top job at Expressway Authority
Precourt initially balked when the proposal was made Wednesday by the board of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority, saying that being a temporary hire would weaken his leadership abilities.
But he later said he would consider the bid, which would pay him more than $15,000 a month. He also would receive one-month's pay if he were fired.
The authority was set to give him a series of 5 one-year contracts, but pulled back after Orange Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton asked the agency to postpone hiring Precourt because an investigation his office is conducting of the authority is not complete
Ashton is looking into allegations that as many as three of the five-member board privately discussed the employment status of Precourt's predecessor, Max Crumit.
