Florida man charged with threatening to hunt down U.S. congressman and hang him from a lamppost

A Florida man was arrested and charged for threatening to hunt down a U.S. congressman, wrap a rope around his neck and hang him from a lamppost.

Federal court documents stated that Charles Zachary Howard, of Winter Park, was arrested outside his home Friday after he called a congressman in Washington, D.C., and left a menacing, expletive-filled voicemail.

"I suggest you prepare for battle and the apocalypse," the voicemail said, according to WFTV.

The name of the congressman Howard threatened was not released.

..... He then asked if the call was a violation of his First Amendment rights after he was told authorities had a recording of the voicemail.

The court documents show that Howard had called dozens of other congressman and senators over the past month, but it's not clear what he said to them.

One person who knows the Winter Park man said Howard believes the government is associated with a number of conspiracy theories.

Howard was charged with threatening to injure a person across state lines.
