Seminole commissioners hand developer $740K to help redevelop old Flea World site

This is what it looks like when Republican-led county officials do the kind of things that Democrats are generally accused of doing. Real Estate development seems to be a common problem in politics.

Seminole County commissioners today, acting as the board for the 17-92 Community Redevelopment Agency, agreed to hand $740,000 to the developer of the old Flea World property to help pay for the demolition of the property.

The 4-to-1 decision came in a commission chamber packed with residents, most of whom opposed giving the developer, 17-92 Five Points LLC, the grant money.

“This is a major catalyst project that if successful will help recreate a great deal of opportunities along the 17-92 corridor,” Commissioner Lee Constantine said.

But Seminole resident H. Alexander Duncan was among several residents who spoke against giving the money to the developer.

how much you wanna bet that a brand-spanking-new AMSCOT goes up in place of the old Flea World? That would be par for the course for Central FL.

One local real estate firm seemed to have cushy jobs ready for all the "friendlies" and potential plaintiffs that were damaged by machinations from a local backroom operation. So, yes, it smells.
