As a teen, he savagely beat a classmate. The attack was forgotten, until he went into politics

Before the 2016 presidential election, he told them, he knocked on thousands of doors and got 50 Republicans in the liberal enclave to register to vote to support Donald Trumps presidential campaign. He worshiped at the same church as the committees vice chair and headed a local chapter of the Catholic fraternal group Knights of Columbus. He came from a wealthy California family and followed four generations into a real estate career.
Within months of joining the local party, the 28-year-old was elected secretary in May, defeating two challengers whod been around longer.
But something felt off about Tarsey for Bob Sutton, chairman of the committee. After a few months, Tarsey went after Suttons position, members said, by working to persuade the committee to unseat him. Thats when Sutton started getting phone calls warning him that Tarsey was not quite who he seemed.
Houston, weve got a problem, he said one caller told him. ... It wasnt long before the story of Tarseys past unfolded.

The Broward County Republicans are in turmoil today after revelations that a freshly elected member of their executive board is a man who once was charged with attempted murder in the savage claw-hammer beating of a then-classmate at a Los Angeles prep school for multi-millionaires children.
Four months after 28-year-old Rupert Tarsey was elected secretary, party officials have found out the young philanthropist and supporter of President Donald Trump is really Rupert Ditsworth.
And a decade ago, the then-Beverly Hills teenager was charged with attempted murder in Los Angeles after hitting Harvard-Westlake School classmate Elizabeth Barcay over the head at least 40 times, splitting her skull open.
....
For years, he quietly volunteered on Republican campaigns, including Trumps. Then in May, Tarsey presented himself at the election for the partys executive board. He won a three-candidate race for secretary with 75 votes. ... Tarseys real identity was discovered by a member who alerted local GOP Chairman Bob Sutton over the Labor Day weekend.
