Sounds like Florida Dem leaders are fighting to get a tough leader in their ranks.

About time.

Secret meeting helps reveal House Democrats' frustration with leader Kionne McGhee

Five House Democrats, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly about McGhee, contend he acquiesces to GOP demands too easily, doesn’t communicate frequently with members and doesn’t do enough to organize Democratic opposition to Republican bills.

McGhee told his colleagues he had agreed to allow bills introduced on the floor the following day to be voted on the same day. But McGhee had also polled the caucus to see if members wanted to allow votes the same day or not. Yet when members asked for the results of the poll, McGhee wouldn’t tell them.

The issue is important because under House rules, bills aren’t supposed to be voted on until at least one day after being introduced. That rule can be waived with the support of the minority party, but that’s typically only done for non-controversial measures. The day gives members more time to draft debate talking points and put pressure on the GOP sponsors, even if the heavily out-numbered Democrats can’t stop them from passing.

But according to his detractors, McGhee hasn’t been forceful this year in fighting highly partisan bills opposed by the majority of his caucus.

Earlier this month he allowed Republicans to vote on a slate of more than 80 bills the same day they were introduced on the floor, including a measure requiring pregnant teens to get parental consent before getting an abortion, which was opposed by all but one Democrat.
