Several years ago when I lived in the outskirts of Marietta I was talking on my ham radio to someone in California. When I told him what city I lived in he asked how close I was to the Big Chicken.

On the other hand, as Marietta has grown the 'necessity' to base directions and locations off the Big Chicken has diminished and it's become less common in conversation.

a resident of Marietta born without a compass in your head, there's no reason NOT to use the big chicken as a reference point.
