What's everyone think of the Braves announced move?

I've been a Braves fan for quite a while (in 1982 when they started the season with a 13 game winning streak I was at game 14 ), and I was lucky enough to attend a World Series game. Anyway, as far as the announced move to Cobb County, IMO it's another case of taxpayers picking up the tab to fuel egos of the ultra wealthy. There's nothing wrong with Turner Field, and I call bullshit on the team's claim that it needs $150 million in "infrastructure" work.

I'd like to hear other opinions.

1. Typical baseball extortion

It's this sort of crap that makes people STAY HOME.

2. I'll believe it when they break ground. These teams are always threatening to move to get more

money from Atlanta. But, I guess the team is into the white flight crud that is resulting in all the new municipalities with their own police and goverance. I'm not sure all this is good for the area, buy the ole Neil Boortz and Limbaugh racists are all over it, I'm sure. Some things never change here.

4. I see in the paper this morning that total taxpayer cost is still a secret....

Kasim Reed said he found out from people involved in the negotiation that the cost to Cobb taxpayers will be $450 million, everyone else involved is refusing to say (which to me suggests it might be even more). How the hell can taxpayers be put on the hook for that kind of money with nothing but secret meetings?

I love baseball, I coached youth baseball for 8 years, and I've been a Braves fan forever. But these kind of dealings, and abandoning a perfectly good facility that's PAID FOR are starting to make me question whether or not I want to spend money on any more Braves tickets in the future.

6. It's always about money and they will probably make a ton more with the move...

many people won't go downtown, hate to ride marta and won't eat or shop or stay in the area. All of that will change in Cobb County. Plus, when they looked at where the season tickets holders live, it's not downtown. I'd guess Alpharetta has a significant number.

Venues. Times have really changed since the old days where what you wanted to do was go and watch a game, be it baseball or basketball or football. No, now everything is about the experience and the best way to milk every dime from the attendees. There have to be shows and fireworks, and giant screens and special effects and farm to table restaurant food YADA YADA YADA. Once one city upgrades an arena, then another venue that's 15 years old just has to follow suit.

IMO, you could not be more right about the egos of the ultra wealthy. For them, more is better.

7. I am not a baseball fan, but I do support the Braves

because they are our home team. I am retired now, but I worked in Cobb County. The traffic is bad during rush hour, and with the new stadium, I think it will only get worse around the stadium area.
