US Rep. Jack Kingston Proposes That Poor Students Sweep Floors In Exchange For Lunch
Perennial asshat Jack Kingston wants poor kids to work for their lunch..
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) wants kids to learn early in life that there's no such thing as a free lunch. To make sure they absorb that lesson, he's proposing that low-income children do some manual labor in exchange for their subsidized meals. On Saturday, Kingston, who is vying to be his party's nominee in Georgia's Senate race next year, spoke at a meeting of the Jackson County Republican Party about the federal school lunch program. Under that program, children from families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty line are eligible for free meals. Students from families with incomes between 130 percent and 185 percent of the poverty level can receive lunches at reduced prices. But on Saturday, Kingston came out against free lunches, saying that children should have to pay at least a nominal amount or do some work like sweeping cafeteria floors. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/18/jack-kingston-school-lunch_n_4467711.html This dipshit then doubles down on his remarks and states he never said "poor kids" and this was all the fault of "Democrats who he said planted a tracker to film his comments". http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/jack-kingston-school-lunch-quote-101377.html He is running for US Senate Seat here, I hope he gets creamed.

1. What I thought was interesting is
that he said they would lose money. Doing harm apparently isn't about the money.

2. I don't suppose it ever occurred to that mean, stupid bastard
that making poor kids sweep floors just so they can learn that "there's no free lunch" is punishing the kids for the poverty of their parents. Say Dad lost his job, the family is broke, so their little 7-year-old in second grade has to do some work to get lunch, to teach the kid a lesson?? And what lesson would that be - that if your family falls on hard times you have to be punished and humiliated?
Kingston should be sweeping floors somewhere, or better yet, scrubbing gas station toilets with a toothbrush, to pay for his lunch. |

5. My kids work for thier allowance
I think all kids should learn to help out around the house.
Now, as to the subject of our jack-ass GOPer politicians in this state, I just can't fathom the ignorance and hatred being spewed by these bastards. Once again modern conservatism is being used to justify greed. My wife works in a middle school cafeteria, her school has the largest number of free and reduced lunch kids in our county. She tells me that these kids are by and large the nicest, most polite, and sweetest kids out of any in the school. She also knows of a couple of kids who get free lunch that shouldn't, but that goes back to the state not doing it's job to police the system, the kids that need the help shouldn't be made to suffer because of a handful of people who cheat. I certainly hope Jack Kingston is running against a strong Democrat who will kick his ass with that stupid idea. |

8. I let him know what I thought.
I also let him know that it was a fellow Georgian who had the compassion to write the legislation to provide low-cost or free school lunch meals to qualified students through subsidies to schools.
