Indiana University fraternity suspended after alleged use of slurs, assault
by Cliff PinckardBLOOMINGTON, Indiana — A fraternity at Indiana University has been suspended and is under investigation after a reported assault on Friday that possibly involved racial and anti-Semitic slurs.
The Indiana Daily Student reports the university’s Interfraternity Council suspended Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on Sunday. The school’s Office of Student Conduct also placed a cease and desist on the fraternity.
It’s another in a growing list of incidents involving fraternities across the nation, including at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where all fraternities have been suspended amid accusations of hazing. Syracuse University also has suspended all fraternity social activities because of suspected ties to racist and anti-Semitic incidents, USA Today reports.
The reported assault occurred Friday night. The Daily Student reports members of Alpha Epsilon Pi, a traditionally Jewish fraternity, were involved in the incident. Few details have been reported on the alleged assault.
