Ernst and Braley tied at 43 percent, Marist poll says

Republican Joni Ernst and Democrat Bruce Braley have equal support among registered voters in Iowa -- 43 percent to 43 percent, an NBC News/Marist poll released this morning shows.

The poll tested Iowans who are registered to vote, and included those who aren't necessarily committed to showing up at the polls in November. About a third say they are unsure about their opinion of the two candidates or have never heard of Ernst or Braley, who are competing for the U.S. Senate seat that Tom Harkin will leave open upon his retirement this winter.

The Iowa GOP quickly sent out a news release trumpeting the poll, saying it's "especially bad for Braley" because Democratic outside groups since the primary have outspent Republicans by a two to one margin, $1.5 million to $755,000. The poll shows "Iowans aren't buying their false attacks" and Iowans "share Joni's values of less spending, lower taxes and more jobs," Ernst backers said.

This is troubling. Granted, it's still early and poll aren't always accurate, but damn, how does she get that kind of support? I guess 24% of Iowans calling themselves Teaparty supporters helps.

Is Bruce running ads in the western part of the state? I've never seen one of his. Ernst has hers running all the time in eastern Iowa. American Crossroads are running a lot of ads. They just did a $500,000 ad buy in Iowa.

3. Senate Majority PAC has Ernst/Koch radio ads on several Omaha stations.

Male and female voices discussing Koch tax breaks and Ernst positions on Social Security and other issues. I can't find a link to the radio spot. Google gives me several links to Ernst campaign crying foul poor Joni is at Guard camp and can't defend herself but no links. I can't pull a dandelion in the yard and not find a damn Joni Ernst ad link.
