WASHINGTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN FACEBOOK POST GARNERS ATTENTION, CALLED HATEFUL AND RACIST

https://www.kciiradio.com/2019/07/23/washington-county-republican-facebook-post-garners-attention-called-hateful-and-racist/

A Washington County Republican Central Committee post is getting statewide attention for what some have called hateful rhetoric. The Facebook post shares a 53-second video clip of President Donald Trump in which a reporter asks about tweets in which he tells people who are not happy here to leave. These tweets have been called racist. The local post goes a step further by calling four elected Representatives, “The four Democratic terrorists.” The post was made by Washington County Republican Central Committee chairman Merle Miller. KCII News spoke with Miller who didn’t want to go on air, but stated he stands by his post and says there is “nothing racist, and nothing wrong” with it. (bolding mine - rurallib)

Washington County Democratic Party Chair Kimberly Davis shared the Democratic Central Committee’s response denouncing the use of hateful rhetoric, “The Washington County Democratic Central Committee will always stand with our immigrant communities and recognizes what an incredible asset they are to this state and to our country. Posting this kind of hateful rhetoric about our elected representatives who are just doing their jobs is wrong. What is happening at our border is tragic and thank goodness some of our leaders are calling this administration out. We wish our Republican friends and neighbors would join with us and take a stand against this kind of hateful speech, which only divides us, weakens us and is simply beneath us our American values.”

Some have said the post incites violence against elected Congresswomen. The post was initially made on July 15th and as of July 23rd was still live on the Washington County Republican Central Committee page with comments that it had been reported to Facebook for hate speech.

(Records show the original post was edited July 23rd from “terrorists” to “incompetent.” The photo shown with this article was taken prior to the change.)
