Now that was one hell of a storm

I am hoping all Iowa DUers are safe and I hope your power is back on.

We were without power for @11 hours. It was pretty strange. Heard reports of power poles down in bid numbers from friends and relatives.

From what I could gather my town wasn't hit nearly as hard as cities along Hwy. 30.

This storm game from nowhere. We were just getting ready to go for lunch when I stopped to quickly call my SIL. He has a close friend who is a weatherman. His friend texted my SIL to tell me to stay home! Boy what a lucky break.

No trees down at my house anyway. Really crazy strong widns but they only lasted a few minutes. Power has been out since 5:30pm though. Thank god for the generator!

I was out walking my dog and heard the sirens going off. The sky was still blue. It was so weird. I went inside and 5 Minutes later it was almost like night, the sky was that dark. And then woosh. The wind and rain was unreal. Mr. madaboutharry had to keep going down different streets on his way home from work because of all the trees and power lines laying in the road.

Morning weather forecast was for 20% chance of pop up showers so I spent about 2 hours hand watering new plantings because of the drought. Just went into the house and the sky darkened to almost nighttime as the storm hit. I lost 4 small branches from the Norway maple on the front yard but large trees were down throughout Des Moines.

With all its fury, the storm brought less than an inch of rain.

Glad to have the power back on and that my covid ice cream supply is okay.

Neighbor's red maple took a huge hit (city's tree actually).

power was out from 1PM to just after midnight. Got to give huge credit to city crews who were cleaning up trees until dark. And huge credit to the electric crews. Couldn't believe it when the lights popped on at 12:03.

I’m not complaining. Our power was out for a solid week in 100-degree temps after the derecho in 2012. I’m prepared with a bin of candles and a couple crank radios, and I got them out late yesterday afternoon..and put them all back before I went to bed.

My thoughts are with everyone effected.

We were out for 18 hours.

Top 1/3 of our tree took out the power. Now I have a $2000 tree problem to deal with.

Here's the view from space showing Iowa's corn fields before and after the storm, which produced wind gusts over 100 mph.

Internet back today, just now, in fact.

Belle Plaine, Iowa, right along Hwy. 30. We got hit hard.

this puts us close to normal. Just have to see what kind of a bill tree trimming leaves us with. Yikes.

Lucky to have two big, strong, teenage sons who were here for cleanup. They are at UNI now...well, until that all goes bad.

Par for the course for 2020 I guess. We were without power for around 43 hours but we got lucky compared with some. All we lost food wise was some milk and some ice cream. I know one thing for sure, I now appreciate traffic lights more than ever.
