Welcome Spring
Welcome to the first day of spring. I was greeted with about ten inches of new snow this morning and the weather forecast said I could expect a few more inches before it was over. Now the people in the north east pride themselves on being a hardy lot. Most of us wouldn’t give up the forest, rivers, lakes and streams or the sunrise over the ocean. We will be here next winter and enjoy the new snow and crisp air. However, to be honest, on at least one morning when it was about twenty below or a foot or more of snow to dig out of, have you said to yourself what am I doing in this frozen forsaken place?

Perhaps a little snowier than usual, but overall pretty close to what I normally think of regarding our winters. I think we've been a bit spoiled by the past 5 years or more of mild temps and less snow. It's really starting get old, though, isn't it? Sigh...
Btw, I found a website that lists weather extremes by state. I was surprised to learn that we are the 3rd coldest. Alaska is (of course) the worst by far, but that is to be expected. What surprised me is how close we were to the 2nd coldest state, North Dakota. Not even a full degree of difference!

And then, there is data on snowfall. We are in the top 5 states for that, w/New York state unsurprisingly being #1... But notice how they used the notoriously snowy Syracuse against southern Maine's Portland. If you add Rangeley's stats to the mix, you get a much different picture:

Sorry for all of this, but I thought it was quite interesting. I'm a bit of a data nerd, lol!
Snow amounts in that area are likely to be nearly the same as Rangeley. Possibly even more (?)...
