1st night with the Fall 2022 Woodstove start.

Been rainy wet and cool for 3 days now. Winds picking up tonight and I don't want to increase the inside temp by cranking the oil. $4,50 a Gallon...close to double from last year!

Anyways, I like the woodstove heat better, Will be shutting it down tomorrow for a chimney clean.....then stacking the 2.5 cords of wood I have, in between house painting over the next 4 weeks. Great to have projects to look forward to,

2. Been heating wih wood for 30 something years.

I installed some mini split heat pumps last year they are amazing even at -11f. We still burned the stove last winter but as we get older it is nice to have a choice.

3. Decided to wean myself off oil.

Presently have a forced HW heat baseboard system with internal HW for personal use.

Phase 1 - Electric HW, tied to my solar panels, via Enphase controller (already installed). My panels take care of personal use and I can drop my Oil consumption by 50%.

Phase 2 - Shutdown entirely for 6 months of the year. Use only as needed.

4. Have had solar since 2014

A 9kw system added another 1k ground mounted system and have another 3 kw to add, should bring us to 100 percent with my shop. Also have solar hot water heating the floor of my shop.

5. Will add more panels, if needed, but I think I export enough to CMP for free,

I can use that extra energy to keep my hot water, hot. CMP (Central Maine Power) would like to see folks stop connecting their solar panels to the grid, but have no problem charging $15/mo to hook into what I thought was a public utility grid. And they don't need to make huge investments in added, centralized capacity.

6. Do you have net metering?

We get credit on excess kw we end up running out around December and pay a small bill until March were we pick up to excess capacity.

7. I think the grid is owned by the users because it's a utility.

I have no probs with paying $15.00/mo to connect to the grid. But if I net export energy, I should get compensated, Not necessarily what I'd pay KWH for delivery, but at least a sig % of this to supply energy in the former of rebates..
