Haven't lived in Maryland since 2010.....I'm only reporting this based upon my knowledge of Raskin in Maryland until then....I can say that I knew him (casually, i.e., not by name) through the YMCA where I would run into him a lot working out....sometimes we chatted. Also - (hope I'm not repeating) I had an 'official' issue with him that I had to email him about. Specifically, a police cruiser in a high speed chase in MY LANE going north in my southbound lane.....Scared the daylights....So I sent him an email = he had the police contact me IMMEDIATELY.
He's from / lives in Takoma Park, Maryland - which has long prided itself as being 'the Berkley of the East Coast' and 'nuclear free'. Every 4th of July they have a 'free speech 4th of July parade'.....I have heard (nfi) that Mike Tidwell - major environmental activist/author - is connected with Raskin. Before I left Maryland in 2010, I was in Progressive Neighbors. They don't endorse lightly and they (among others - NEA, Sierra Club, etc., etc.) have endorsed him.
Basically, when I found out Raskin was running, it was sort of easy to get caught up..and putting 2 and 2 together about who he's running against..The funding is what his campaign is saying - but I think it's a safe bet.
