1. Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ron Bateman arrested Sunday night, on leave from department

Anne Arundel County Sheriff Ronald Bateman was arrested Sunday night, county police said.

When reached by phone Monday morning, Bateman declined to comment but said his office will release a statement later in the day.

Police said they responded to Bateman's home in the Riviera Beach neighborhood of Pasadena around 7:30 p.m. where Bateman's wife Elsie said that he had assaulted her.

When officers arrived they spoke with Bateman's wife, who said she and her husband got into an argument after she came home from dinner.

Bateman's wife told police Bateman told her to get out of the house, and she was going to leave but didn't have any money.

2. Arrested for misdemeanor assault of his wife.

3. Takes a lot of "balls" to arrest a county sheriff. They have a lot of pull.
