Maryland's turn to vote and early voting is up HUGE this year

So once again we get to my state's primary and the race is pretty much decided. The media has descended upon Baltimore in a way that hasn't been seen since Freddie Gray and the riots of last year. MSNBC set up shop at one of my coffee hangouts in Mt. Vernon yesterday and there were lots of people out for a Sanders rally as I was driving through the city to meet up with some friends for brunch. Polls show Hillary Clinton with a very healthy lead here. This is a very blue state that went Republican for the governor the last cycle because residents were fed up with O'Malley (nicknamed OWEMalley) and weren't ready to elect his Lt Gov Anthony Brown to office.

I will be voting in the late evening on Tuesday because I have a meeting downstate and did not early vote.

From the Baltimore Sun: "Nearly 260,000 people, or 7.5 percent of eligible voters, cast ballots in the eight days of early voting that ended this past Thursday. That’s three times the early-voter turnout in the 2012 presidential primary, when President Obama was uncontested in the Democratic primary and Republican Mitt Romney was on the verge of clinching the nomination. Since then, Maryland has added two more early-voting days and additional sites. Tuesday’s primary also falls during Passover, possibly boosting early turnout among Jewish voters. In all, nearly 9 percent of Maryland’s 2 million eligible Democrats cast early ballots, while 6.7 percent of eligible Republicans did."

Besides, I like voting on the actual day. My particular area rarely has long lines. Longest line I waited in was in 2008 voting for Obama. Well worth it.

I'd rather every library in the city be open and staffed by retirees and cast my vote in leisure at any polling place. Voting should be this easy. Texas is leading the way.

to let MD voters know about early voting, there were several who told me that they intended to vote on the day itself. So you are not alone!
