Officials said speed and inexperience contributed to a horrific crash that claimed the lives of three Clarksburg High School football players Tuesday night, just hours before the school was set to celebrate its graduation.
Jacob Tyler Dennis, 17, of Boyds, had only had his provisional license for three months, before he lost control of a Ford F-250 pickup truck on a sharp curve in Damascus shortly after 11:35 p.m. Tuesday night, police said.
We believe speed was a factor because he was unable to negotiate the curve, said Capt. Tom Didone, commander of the traffic division at Montgomery County Police. Theres no indication that alcohol was a factor.
Dennis was killed, as were his two passengers, identified as Patrick Andrew Shifflett, 18, of Laytonsville, and Cary Maurice Greene, 17, of Clarksburg. The teens were all juniors at Clarksburg High School, which was in shock and mourning during a graduation on Wednesday morning.
