CSX: Freight train derails in Baltimore tunnel, no injuries

This is not the line used by Amtrak through Baltimore. That traffic takes another route. If it had been, then maybe this would be news of earthshaking national importance. It's not.

The Howard Street Tunnel is the tunnel where there was a big derailment and fire back in the summer of 2001.

This tunnel was the site of the first main line electrification in the United States.

CSX: Freight train derails in Baltimore tunnel, no injuries

By Associated Press |Monday, June 13th 2016

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A CSX official says a freight train has derailed in a tunnel in Baltimore, but no injuries or leaks have been reported.

CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said by telephone that 10 cars derailed around 5:30 a.m. Monday in the Howard Street tunnel.

Doolittle says the train headed from Philadelphia to Cumberland, Maryland, consists of eight locomotives and 124 cars, including 18 loaded cars. He says there were hazardous materials aboard, including one hazardous load among the derailed cars, but there are no reports of leaks or injuries.

Doolittle says rail traffic is stopped in the area. He says the line is only used by CSX and Amtrak service isn't affected. ... He says the situation is still being assessed and the cause is under investigation.

We need to tax the 1% more heavily
and cut the insane military budget in order to fund mass transit and other infrastructure repairs.
