First, Of course, it's hideous that they're hoping to honor a presidential assassin. Imagine doing the same for Lee Harvey Oswald.

Second, while my state Maryland does have history involving JWB's escape route after shooting Lincoln, it was nowhere near Taneytown, which is in Carroll County. JWB escaped through Prince George's and Charles counties, and then across the Potomac to VA.

There are already historical markers and places of interest for history buffs to visit along the actual escape route, most notably the house in Charles County of Dr. Samuel Mudd, who treated Booth's injuries and was later convicted of conspiring with Booth.

But a display of actual historical artifacts is totally different than memorializing an assassin with a huge portrait or similar tribute.
