New 6th District Democratic candidates for Congress - looking for info

Seeking your input on the 6th District Democratic primary candidates!

I just learned the other day that we've been switched from the 8th District, represented by Chris Van Hollen, to the 6th District, currently held by Republican Roscoe Bartlett.

The Gazette shows that 13 people, including Bartlett, are running for the seat. Eight are Republicans, and five are Democrats.

I know almost nothing about the Democratic candidates, and wonder if any of you fellow Marylanders is familiar with them. The only things I've heard are that Delaney is a bank CEO, and Garagiola is in the state senate.

The Democrats are: Charles Bailey, John Delaney, Rob Garagiola, Ron Little and Milan Pooran.

Thanks!

1. OMG, LibEst!

I LIVE in Hagerstown, 'heart' of Bartlett's district.
(live there about 30% of the time, and in VanHollen's, SilSpg, the rest of the time.)
Have been seeing tv ads for Delaney when in SilSpg; know nothing more about him. Going to Ha'town later today; will see who's advertising.
You're where?

2. Derwood

Not a town, more of a "state of mind".
Very close to the Shady Grove Metro.

3. Maybe we should work on this together.

Bartlett's been there/here forever, I think his office is in Ha'town.
Wonder whether, if bartlett's inherited some of VanHollen's district, there might be a chance for a change.

4. Howard Dean endorses Pooran

BTW, as I mentioned in my OP, I was in Van Hollen's district; now in Bartlett's.

I think the intention was to take a segment of Democratic voters out of Van Hollen's "safe" district and put them in Bartlett's in order to try and replace him with a Democrat.

5. Thanks. Good to see.

Yes, and I'm officially registered in VanHollen's, as I registered my car in Silver Spring, but live part time in Hagerstown, so I'm physically between the 2.

In Hagerstown now, and will look for posters and other indicia that there's a race on the Dem side.

Wondering whether moving some Dems into Bartlett's district will do the trick. Would be good.

12. Move-On endorses Garagiola

Here's the email I received today:

Dear XXXX,

The results are in: 79% of MoveOn members voting in Maryland's new 6th District decided that MoveOn should endorse Rob Garagiola in the Democratic primary for the U.S. House.

Rob Garagiola is a real champion of the 99% who, as state Senate majority leader, has led the fight for better schools, green jobs, and marriage equality.

But his quarter-billionaire opponent, who's currently under investigation for tax evasion, is spending big bucks to rebrand himself as a progressive and confuse 6th District voters, even though he donated the maximum allowed by law to tea party Rep. Andy Harris.

MoveOn members in the 6th District gave Garagiola their clear support—with seven times as many votes for him as any other candidate. And their reasons are clear. As Lindsey from Germantown put it:

Rob Garagiola has been my state senator for the last eight years and has always stood up for the issues I care most about. He has been a champion for education funding, expanding health care coverage, and creating green jobs that will protect the environment. He's pro-choice and will protect women's rights in Congress. He helped pass the Civil Marriage Protection Act to ensure that same-sex couples have the right to marry in Maryland. Rob Garagiola has a proven record of standing up for progressive issues in Maryland so I know that he will do the same in Congress.

When Garagiola heard that MoveOn members had endorsed him, here's what he said:

As someone who has led on so many progressive issues in the Maryland State Senate—marriage equality, the Dream Act, healthcare expansion, and green jobs—it's an honor to receive the endorsement of MoveOn, a national leader on the progressive values that so many Democratic primary voters of Maryland's 6th Congressional District share. I need MoveOn's help right now. John Delaney, my opponent, is using his quarter-of-a-billion-dollar personal fortune, which he made by foreclosing on the homes of working families and bankrupting small businesses, to try to buy this election. The grassroots support of MoveOn can make the difference and guarantee that a real Democrat and a true progressive wins the primary on April 3.

The primary is just a few weeks away, and Garagiola's campaign needs volunteers to help them get the word out about his proven progressive record. Can you sign up to volunteer?

Thanks for all you do.

–Daniel, Nash, and the rest of the team

P.S. Can you take a minute to forward this email to every voter you know in Maryland's new 6th District—which includes the western part of Montgomery County, the southern part of Frederick County, and all of Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties?
