Tyngsborough to offset electric bill
By Brenda J. Buote Globe Correspondent

The town of Tyngsborough hopes to realize at least $850,000 in electricity savings over 20 years by purchasing 2.5 megawatts from a solar project to be built on the former Charles George landfill on Route 3. Town Administrator Curt Bellavance said the electricity purchased from Tyngsborough Landfill Solar LLC would be used as a credit on the town’s electricity bill with National Grid, through a setup that allows customers to offset their electricity usage. The town uses roughly 2.93 megawatts of electricity each year for its municipal buildings. For the solar project to move forward, the Legislature must first raise the number of credits allowed across the state, Bellavance said.
