Two former city councilors may vie for register of deeds
Matt Stout Friday, March 18, 2016

Former City Councilor Charles Yancey is weighing another run for office, this time for Suffolk register of deeds — a race that could put him in competition with another ousted Hub councilor.

~snip~

News of Yancey’s interest follows that of fellow former city councilor Stephen J. Murphy, who has also pulled nomination papers for the obscure register spot, according to McNiff.

~snip~

Yancey, who served on the council for 32 years, and Murphy both lost re-election bids last November — Yancey to newcomer Andrea Campbell while Murphy was effectively pushed from the council’s four-person at-large field by Annissa
Essaibi-George.

Murphy has sought different and higher offices before, including state treasurer and Suffolk County sheriff. Yancey in 2013 ran both on what was an expansive mayoral ticket and as an incumbent councilor, winning re-
election to his seat.
