'NASTY Woman Act' repealing old laws on adultery, abortion, contraception heads to Gov. Baker
The Massachusetts Legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Charlie Baker's desk repealing outdated laws on abortion and contraception.
"The changing dynamic of the Supreme Court is a real and legitimate concern," said Rep. Claire Cronin, D-Easton, chairwoman of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary.
Cronin said she is worried that Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case establishing abortion rights, will be overturned. "We must ensure that if this occurs, in Massachusetts we have taken necessary steps to protect the right to choice and protect the right to access health care and access information needed to make private medical decisions," Cronin said.
The Senate passed the bill unanimously in January. The House passed it on Wednesday, by a vote of 138-9.
