'NASTY Woman Act' repealing old laws on adultery, abortion, contraception heads to Gov. Baker

The Massachusetts Legislature has sent a bill to Gov. Charlie Baker's desk repealing outdated laws on abortion and contraception.

"The changing dynamic of the Supreme Court is a real and legitimate concern," said Rep. Claire Cronin, D-Easton, chairwoman of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary.

Cronin said she is worried that Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court case establishing abortion rights, will be overturned. "We must ensure that if this occurs, in Massachusetts we have taken necessary steps to protect the right to choice and protect the right to access health care and access information needed to make private medical decisions," Cronin said.

The Senate passed the bill unanimously in January. The House passed it on Wednesday, by a vote of 138-9.

One thing that I've noticed is that since when I began posting in the state groups that other members have started or increased the amount of posts there. I think that there is an interest for local coverage on DU so if I can stir the pot with a few threads to keep members informed then I've made some contribution to the site.
