Man walks through Boston Logan Airport with $50K in a backpack; government wants to keep it

A backpack stuffed with $49,400 in cash seized by authorities at Boston Logan International Airport last year is part of a legal battle over whether the money can actually be kept by the government.

The government claims the money was part of illegal drug sales, but the owner of the cash and his lawyers say authorities have no proof other than suggesting a criminal act was involved.

Carrying a large amount of cash isnít evidence of illegal activity, the manís lawyers argue.

The issue over the legality of the proposed seizure of the cash began on May 1, 2018, when Robert N. Kenny headed to Logan to catch a flight to San Francisco that night, according to a civil filing in a federal court in Massachusetts.

1. Well at least I wasn't behind him at Kroger's while we was wiring it

Seriously they need to have a no wiring time zone from 5-7.

2. Damn. Read the details. This guy is guilty!

His company sells items for packaging and smoking drugs.

The business-partners he wanted to meet are known to law-enforcement as drug-dealers.

The reason for carrying the cash was simple, Kenny explained. There were no branches for the bank he uses in Massachusetts.

That's the biggest bullshit I ever heard. Paypal, cheque, wire-transfer, traveller-cheques... Hell, he even could have used Bitcoin.

4. This asset seizure has been going on for decades and the courts back it. I think it's bullshit.

I usually keep a hundred dollar bill stashed in my wallet. Who is to say I won't buy drugs with it? So if someone has a lot of money on them then they are guilty of......what? Having a lot of money on them? What is the legal threshold before you are considered guilty of a crime that hasn't happened yet? Cops have been doing this on I-95 for decades, elsewhere also.

Sure, it is possible someone will be using that money to by drugs. In other words, dollars are legal tender in this country unless you have a lot of them. Then it's a license for someone to steal them from you.

5. These goons remind me of the Japanese soldiers who didn't know WWII ended

decades after the fact. Didn't Mass legalize recently? no one told these goons?
