The local newscasters and wearther people were obviously freaked out having never covered anything like this before.

There was the state's first ever tornado emergency declared by the NWS. The designation was available since 1999.

Portage, which is a heavily popuilated suburb of Kalamazoo took 2 direct hits from 2 tornadoes less than an hour apart. Almost the same neighborhoods.

and the GR meteorologists were really rattled. They were professional, but you could tell they were stressed. It was a surprise because they weren't really expecting such strong storms around here. There was a lot of damage, but it could've been a whole lot worse. From what I'm seeing this morning, damage looks like a high-end EF-2 or EF-3, but I'm not a professional so I could be wrong.
