Related: About this forumGM to cut at least 1,000 software jobs, biggest impact at GM Tech Center in Warren
https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2024/08/19/gm-cuts-software-jobs-warren-tech-center/74856463007/General Motors is eliminating more than 1,000 jobs and possibly more than 1,500 in its software division globally, with 634 of the jobs being cut coming from its Global Technical Center in Warren. GM said the move is to streamline that division's operations to work faster and more efficiently.
The cuts follow a tumultuous year for GM software operations, including having to stop sales of Chevrolet Blazer EV, as it was launching late last year, due to software issues. That was in addition to halting sales of its midsize pickups in February, also related to software problems. GM's stop-sale on the midsize pickups lasted less than 24 hours. GM lifted the stop-sale on the Blazer EV earlier this year after more than two months.
(snip)
A person familiar with the situation said the number of positions being cut is "more than 1,000 and could be more than 1,500." The person was not authorized to share that information with the public and insisted on not being named.
My comments:
So, 634 jobs at the Warren facility were apparently terminated on Monday, with over 220 of these from software engineering and almost 100 from systems engineering. I probably know a few of them. Bummer.
I dont know how cutting the staffing helps to streamline operations to work faster and more efficiently. From what Ive observed from other large layoff events, the opposite is usually true.

were getting too demanding? Keep track of how many corps are releasing their work force, this isn't the first one...see how they the rich and powerful run you? We to have more employee owned business and patronize them, not those who don't give a damn about you the worker. And did you notice the owners of this country shut the dude up in two days? Be aware how many large business are letting go of their employees and put two and two together
