Our Repub Gov Snyder is at the final stages of leasing/selling off State Land to a Canadian Mining Company. The mining company wants to strip mine for limestone - 10,000 acres of pristine forest land here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (If you have never been here, you must come because it is truly a magical place). They also plan to crush the stone and build a kiln to make lime. This land was ceded to the Federal Gov and to the State of Michigan in an 1836 treaty, by my Tribal ancestors, to help Michigan become a state. This land was never supposed to be sold off, the state was to become stewards of the land for the tribal people. We have permeate rights to hunt, fish and gather sacred plants and edibles there. Snyder never had an open bid for the project and never included the Tribes in any of the early meeting for this proposal.

Snyder move is cruel and cynical, by proposing this mine here. He knows the people are desperate for jobs so they will accept anything including polluting the very place they live in. The mining operation will only create approx 30 full time jobs. These jobs are not worth it, for this massive environmental destruction of the land, air and water (that flows into Lake Superior). This is a Corp giveaway, and illegal land grab by the Snyder and the Republicans under the cover of night. Please spread the word to any and all who would be kind enough to post a comment to the DNR.
