Jackson County Democratic leader resigns: 'It's a dysfunctional group'

JACKSON, MI - After more than two years as Jackson County Democratic Committee chairwoman, Barb Shelton announced her resignation earlier this month.

"It's a dysfunctional group," she said of the Democratic committee. "I think I was too progressive for a lot of my peers."

Shelton said she would often get "a lot of flak" for attending Republican events and crossing the aisle to speak with GOP administrators and politicians. "It's as if you can't event talk to anyone anymore," she said. "I wasn't being disloyal. I was just interested on their views and where they were coming from."

snip

"I felt like I always had to tow the Democratic line, even when I didn't agree with what they were doing," she said. "Now I can call everyone out regardless of party affiliation."

Sorry to see her go, but I am not surprised. She was up against a headwind.

I've been slaving away at the condo association eleven years, trying to get my "house" in order so that I could be free to work outside this little community, but at this rate, I never will progress to politics beyond that of a non-profit corporation run by unenthused and ill-informed and spiteful amateurs.

In fact, it is wrong to even use the word "amateur", since that implies a love of the subject. These people don't love their community or their neighbors--they just want POWER--power to ensure that everyone is miserable, since they aren't doing their volunteer work out of any kind of commitment to the end result.

I think it's the same problem, too. I am dealing with emotionally stunted two-year-olds with advanced degrees from U of M, which must confer minor godhood status.

And Barb is RIGHT ON POINT. It's a game of "If You Are Not on My Team....." in Michigan and frankly --- it is more than sickening. So, we can't talk to the other side without being "disloyal". We have to step in "lock step" with everything that is said by our party, regardless to whether we agree with it.

No, don't think so. It appears neither did Barb! We at IUNT appauld her for this decision as its highly doubtful it was not made except after much thought and evaluation.
