Judicial Tenure Commission dismisses its longtime executive director
The commission that polices the ethical conduct of Michigan's 600 judges confirmed Friday that it has dismissed its long-time executive director and named an interim replacement on the eve of pivotal hearings in two controversial judicial misconduct cases.
Michigan Court of Appeals Judge David Sawyer, who chairs the nine-member Judicial Tenure Commission, said commissioners voted to remove Paul Fischer as executive director and name Glenn Page, a veteran JTC staff attorney, as Fischer's interim replacement at a closed meeting last Monday.
Sawyer declined to discuss what had led to Fischer's dismissal and said he doubted the commission would issue a news release acknowledging it.
"He (Fischer) did an excellent job, up to a point ... It's not like we're putting him on the street," said Sawyer, who added that Fischer would remain at the commission as a staff attorney through year-end.
