1982 Michigan governors election

James Blanchard D, normal & Richard Headlee R, weirdo, ran against each other. In the last 6 wks of that campaign, Headlee went full on primordial tea bagger , several statements about gays& women&
blacks that were so weird & out of context I recall the Free Press laughing @ him on the editorial& front pages. Any one else remember this match? Clinton/Trump seems like an echo.

1. I remember

We used to call him Dickhead Lee.

I lived down the street from Jim Blanchard. He was a good man. He was instrumental in putting together the deal that saved Chrysler when he was in Congress.

2. It got so weird

Reading the phrase Homosexual Agenda in the paper (& I was very closeted due to family& my internship) was a memorable day. Blanchard always seemed like a smart hard working guy.
