Computer glitch touches Wayne Co. district, ADP, state

Lansing ó State workers, Wayne County regional school employees and anyone employed by a Michigan company whose payroll is processed by financial giant Automated Data Processing Inc. are among the nearly 1.9 million individuals whose personal information was potentially exposed by a state computer glitch.

The state didnít identify during a Friday press call the 31 third-party payroll vendors whose employee data was accidentally exposed by a state unemployment benefits computer system glitch from Oct. 10 through Jan. 30.

But a list provided Tuesday by the Michigan Talent and Economic Development Department indicated that the companies include human resources firm Hewitt Associates, Grand Rapids-based Mercantile Bank and Texas-based 7-Eleven, which has about 250 convenience stores in Michigan. Also on the list was the Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency.

The state computer system malfunction potentially exposed 1.87 million Michigan residentsí first and last names as well as their Social Security numbers. The exposed information potentially included that from all state government employees, the Wayne County Regional Education Service and employees for any company that had its payroll processed by the human resources firm Hewitt Associates and others.
