Detroit OKs $215-an-hour contract for consultant
The Detroit City Council today approved a $357,200 contract for Larry A. King, a human resources consultant whose previous deal was criticized for expense allowances that covered frequent flights and hotel stays.
King will pay for his travel expenses under his new contract, but it includes a pay raise. The new, one-year deal would pay him $215 an hour, up from his previous rate of $175.
King, who was first hired in 2014 while the city was in bankruptcy, said he has been mindful of Detroits tight financial situation. Under his previous contract, he said he charged fewer hours than he worked and built relationships with existing workers and consultants rather than push for new hires.
Im here by choice, King said at todays council meeting, his first appearance before the council. I decided to see what I could do to help.
