DTE Energy says recovery will take days; 90% will have power by Sunday

DTE Energy president Trevor Lauer confirmed at noon today that there are about 630,000 customers still without power in the metro Detroit area and that it expects 90% of those customers will have their power back by Sunday.

"We haven't had a storm of this size before," Lauer said during a news conference today in Detroit, referring to the wind storm Wednesday that knocked down trees and power lines throughout the state.

Lauer confirmed that the effort to restore power for its customers will take "multiple days" and urged residents to place safety first and to help their neighbors if they're in need.

Lauer said there are about 4,000 power lines down with 650 extra crews coming to the Detroit area from out of state to help in restoring power. Those crews are coming from states such as Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania and New York.
