Fired Flint attorney files whistleblower suit against Mayor Weaver

Fired Flint attorney Stacy Erwin Oakes filed a whistle-blower lawsuit late Monday against the city and Mayor Karen Weaver, alleging she was dismissed for objecting to "fraudulent legal documents" and other illegal acts.

"Throughout plaintiff's employ, she became aware and spoke out against perceived illegal and actual illegal acts" by the city and the mayor, Oakes alleges in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

"Plaintiff made her complaints known to Defendant Weaver" and others working for the city, and "refused to participate in illegal acts," the suit alleges.

Weaver issued a short statement in response to the lawsuit.

"While we can't comment on pending litigation, we look forward to presenting our side," the mayor said.
