Bureau of Elections reviewing Michigan Supreme Court's Public Act 4 ruling

LANSING, MI -- The state Board of Canvassers has yet to schedule a meeting following today's ruling from the Michigan Supreme Court ordering the referendum of the emergency manager law on the ballot, a Secretary of State official said this afternoon.

In a 62-page series of opinions, the court ordered the Board of Canvassers to certify the referendum petitions, which had been disputed because of the wording's font size.

As of this afternoon, no meeting had been scheduled, said Secretary of State spokesman Fred Woodhams.

Once the petitions are certified, state officials have said the law would be suspended and would revert to its previous version, which doesn't afford emergency managers as much authority as Public Act 4.
