There is so much damage from the expansion/contraction from all of the freeze/thaw cycles that the roads must be maintained with constant vigilance. It is not a good place to squeeze money out of the budget.

Michigan roads are so bad because of the winters. Sorry. I can list a dozen or more other states that have winters similar to or worse than ours and their roads aren't as abysmal.

In Ohio, that person driving in the left lane will be puttering along about 2 mph under the speed limit.

Which, along with the freeze/thaw cycle and road maintenance not being a budget priority, is why many of the roads look like the ones in the photo.

Things are much improved. Also further expenditures to road improvements such as the connection to the missing link of Rt. 95.

The tax increase is pegged to inflation and is due to be raised again. Now the Republicans are complaining about the tax. They forget how poorly maintained the roads were before the increase.
