Trump: Now Ford can build Focus in U.S.; Ford: That makes no sense

Auto analysts groaned on Sunday in response to tweets sent by President Trump that touted his tariffs on Chinese imports and his claim that the trade war would inspire Ford Motor Co. to build its Ford Active crossover in the U.S. rather than overseas.

Wrong, Ford said.

The Dearborn-based company issued a statement in response to the president's tweet:

“It would not be profitable to build the Focus Active in the U.S. given an expected annual sales volume of fewer than 50,000 units and its competitive segment. Ford is proud to employ more U.S. hourly workers and build more vehicles in the U.S. than any other automaker."

“Ford has abruptly killed a plan to sell a Chinese-made small vehicle in the U.S. because of the prospect of higher U.S. Tariffs.” CNBC. This is just the beginning. This car can now be BUILT IN THE U.S.A. and Ford will pay no tariffs!

Instead, they took a mealy-mouthed approach to Trump's LYING and just said ... what they said, about how it 'wouldn't make sense', and then just kinda sucked up WRT how they employ the most US 'hourly workers', and how they build the 'most vehicles in the US' ... both stats I'm sure are carefully calibrated in the same manner that pharmaceutical companies advertise ...

IOW that sounds kinda like 'Tylenol ... the pain reliever hospitals use most' ... which in reality only means that 'acetaminophen is the pain reliever that's given to hospital patients in the highest quantity, by weight' ... primarily because it's a weak-ass pain reliever, so people need a lot of it to do anything.

I'd imagine this claim by Ford is the same kind of 'advertising' ... but I could be wrong.

I wish these companies would just come straight out and be like 'Yeah ... No. The President is Lying, we did not 'kill our plan' in any way'. But that'd be asking too much from Corporate America, clearly. They got their tax cuts, so ...

just how entrenched Republican economic dogma is throughout our corporate culture. And the absolute worst example of that is in the behavior of our major media companies. All their boards of directors and their corporate offices are loaded with staunch Republicans because they hate progressive taxation.

They dare not offend any elected Republican for fear of retaliation which could affect their margins - therefore risking their jobs. We know damn well that Repugs love to do back-door retaliation against offenders via little tweaks in legislation and regulations, and by preventing companies from winning supply contracts - that's in their DNA.

Just look at how many major American companies still advertise on Faux News. If they gave a tinker's dam about America, none would be doing that or contributing to Republican campaigns.

Rant over......
