Related: About this forumDoes it seem like Labor has made a secret deal with Snyder?
I see where Nerdboy has come out against Right to Work Law and it seems labor hasn't pushed Recall. Maybe both sides don't want to hurt auto industry rebound.

(44,173 posts)It was being run by a bunch of incompetents (as recalls often are).

(6,948 posts)A better descriptor would be inexperienced rather than incompetent. Most of the volunteers and the leadership were very new to political activism. I found the leadership to be very quick learners, and by the mid point to end of the effort, things were being run pretty well, perfectly and most efficiently...no, but pretty well. The effort had almost no support from the unions until late in the game, zero support from the Dem Party, close to zero media coverage, and a shoestring budget. Due to the inexperience of the leadership, and a desire to get things rolling to get the issue on the November ballot, we got off to a rocky start. Many mistakes were made, but being a part of the effort from almost the very beginning, I saw very little evidence of incompetency. All things considered, the lack of support, a shortage of active volunteers, no publicity, and a very low budget, what was accomplished was pretty darn amazing. I don't consider the effort a failure. We got people to wake up and start paying attention, and as far as organizing, learned a lot.
The group has reorganized, and plans to try again, only this time with their ducks in a row before the petition drive actually starts.

I think they will be a little more experienced and detailed the second go around. Look for assistance from Democracy for America with the second effort also.
They did assist with Recall Rick 2011 but again, later in the game....too late at that point to change the end result.

(7,006 posts)This deal was made shortly after Gov. Snyder was elected. A meeting took place between the Gov. and union leaders that if Snyder didn't sign a right-to-work law during is time in office, unions would sit on the sidelines with the former recall effort.
Guess Snyder is paying back for this deal.

(192 posts)I know the MEA was involved but we did not get involved officially until the beginning of July.

(7,006 posts)The MEA got involved with Recall Rick after he took away the $900 million dollars out of the school aid fund, made cuts to K-12 teacher tenure rights and threaten to (which he will next week before his taxpayer funded x-mas vacation) sign the Unlimited Charter School bill passed in the GOP House and Senate last week.
But, a renewed effort to Recall Rick is suppose to start in April 2011 (heard this information on my weekend political podcast radio show on 12/17 from Bruce Fealk of the Rochester Citizen...confirmed by M. Thompson who worked in the inside of Recall Rick 2011) called Michigan Rising.

Now, will the Michigan Democratic Party-I.E. Mark Brewer- get involved in this effort? Well, that remains to be seen.
