Voted straight party ticket around noon today and was told by the ladies there that turnout was about normal.
Cast my ballot for Johnson, Kelley and McCormack for State Supreme Court and No, Yes, Yes, Yes, No and No on the ballot proposals.
Dem candidates got slaughtered in Upper Michigan in 2010 and I'm hoping we make a comeback this year.

Last I heard things could go either way up north. Fingers crossed.

(36,294 posts)Last I read, (D) McDowell's campaign has said he's not ready to concede the race for !st Congressional District until discrepancies in vote reporting have been investigated and absentee ballots are counted. He's currently about 2500 votes below incumbent (R) Benishek.
In the state 110th House district contest, (D) Scott Dianda has defeated incumbent (R) Matt Huuki. In the 109th state House district, (D) John Kivela won the open seat. In the 108th state House district, incumbent (R) Ed McBroom won re-election.
Overall, as far as the state House seats are concerned, Dems made a good showing even though failing to get back the 108th seat which was lost in 2010. The open 109th seat was held and the 110th was regained.
Upper Michigan has one state Senator and he was not up for re-election this year.

With 93% of precincts reporting, 52% of state voters said no to keeping the controversial law, while 48% said yes. "

"..."I am so proud of the grassroots campaign we built to fight for hard-working middle class families in Northern Michigan," McDowell said in a written statement sent late Wednesday morning. "We owe it to them and our overseas military to let the process continue and make sure that all absentee and provisional ballots are counted.""

(36,294 posts)Bummer. On the bright side McDowell did much better this time around then in 2010 when he lost by 11%. Just a little over 2000 votes made the difference this year but McDowell could not overcome the results from the counties in lower Michigan which make up the southern part of the district. Counties that tended to be Republican and gave Benishek the win.
