Mark Schauer Introduces Running Mate: 'Lisa Brown Is A Fighter And She Knows How To Lead'

DETROIT, MI – Candidate for governor Mark Schauer on Thursday made his selection of a running mate official, calling Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown a tough leader who knows how to win tough elections

Schauer, a Democratic former congressman from Battle Creek, is challenging Republican Gov. Rick Snyder in the November election.

“Lisa Brown is a fighter and she knows how to lead,” Schauer told a crowd of union figures, gay rights activists and other Democrats enthusiastic about the choice at a Southfield branch of the Oakland County Community College.

"... She raised her voice to speak up for women, for all of us. And when Republicans tried to stop her, she never backed down."

Brown gained national attention as a state legislator in 2012 when she was barred from speaking on the House floor after saying during debate on a bill related to abortion: "I'm flattered that you're all so interested in my vagina, but 'no' means 'no.'"
