Interesting, Charter schools are hurting more by State funding delay.

Financial woes force West St. Paul's Vessey Leadership Academy to close

The fiscal difficulties encountered by Vessey are squeezing charter schools across the state as they struggle to find ways to bridge the funding gap that delayed 40 percent of their funding this budget cycle. Most charters were forced to
use private financing.

A recent study by the Nonprofit Assistance Fund, Charter School Partners and the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools found the quasi-public/private schools had an "unequal and unfair" burden of the state's education funding shifts.

Financing cost the schools as much as 23 percent versus traditional districts that receive interest rates of 1 percent or less, the study revealed. Vessey school board members tried to secure private funding to keep the school open, but the enterprise was deemed too risky, Meyer said.
